The Deal of the Year award recognizes emblematic cases in Latin America in eleven categories and was awarded to our firm for its work as advisors to Aligned Data Centers to acquire ODATA from Patria and CyrusOne.

Latin Lawyer announces Deal of the Year winners
Latin Lawyer announced the winners of its 18th annual Deal of the Year Awards at a charity awards ceremony last week in São Paulo, which was attended by over 200 guests.
The winning deals are:
Regulatory matter – Hapag-Lloyd gets antitrust clearance for US$1 billion SAAM acquisition
Disputes – Telefónica, América Móvil and TIM settle Brazilian M&A dispute with Oi
Restructuring – Samarco enforces judicial reorganisation plan
Project finance: infrastructure – Patria desalination plants get US$883 million credit line in Chile
Project finance: energy and natural resources – IFC makes first investment in lithium sector with Argentine project

Deals and cases across 11 categories were presented at a charity dinner at Hotel Unique last night, with 30% of the revenue from the event donated to Latin American clearinghouses Brazil’s Instituto Pro Bono, Fundación Pro Bono Colombia and Appleseed Mexico.
Latin Lawyer also presented Individual Awards to lawyers, firms and projects across eight categories. Moshe Sendacz of Brazil’s Machado Meyer Advogados and José Astigarraga of Reed Smith LLP both received Lifetime Achievement awards, whilst Fulvio Italiani of Venezuela’s D’Empaire was named Law Firm Leader of the Year and Conrado Tenaglia of Linklaters’s Latin America practice group was named International Lawyer of the Year. Ana Utumi of Brazil’s Utumi Advogados received the award for Specialist Law Firm Leader of the Year.
Peru’s Benites, Vargas & Ugaz Abogados was this year’s recipient of Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year, whilst a number of Colombian law firms were honoured for their work on ProBono Sin Fronteras – this year’s Pro Bono Project of the Year.
Ferrere (Uruguay) was handed the ESG Initiative of the Year award for its Liberados project and Brazil’s Mattos Filho won Diversity Initiative of the Year. Interviews with recipients of the Individual Awards will be published in upcoming briefings.
